What is anthroposophy?

Anthroposophy offers a living understanding of — and relationship to — the spiritual world. There is more to life than what we experience through our senses. In Explorations we dive into contemplation and reflection on what brings deeper meaning and purpose to our earthly existence, unraveling an often confused experience of the world into what is essential for us as human beings to learn and grow.

What you’ll experience

Over the course of this dynamic program you’ll explore meditative practices, child development, artistic renewal, and personal and community-oriented growth — through live weekend sessions led by master teachers. From speech and singing to eurythmy and pastel drawing, this is more than a course; it’s a gateway to personal growth and community. Whether you’re brand new or deepening a long-standing path, your next step begins here.

Each class opens with 30 minutes of artistic work — speech and storytelling, eurythmy, music, or pastel drawing — followed by contemplative study on current themes, using anthroposophy as a method of inquiry.

A flexible online format

With its convenient online format and the option to start in spring or fall, this course in anthroposophical foundational studies is open to interested people all around the world. All 30 sessions are recorded and available for later viewing. Classes meet on weekends twice a month — Saturdays and Sundays, 12:00–2:00 p.m. ET (9:00–11:00 a.m. PT).

Who should attend

This course is for parents, teachers, administrators, or anyone who wants to learn more about Waldorf (Steiner) education and its anthroposophical foundations. Explorations meets the requirement for further teacher training, and may be taken alongside Building Bridges, Waldorf Leadership Development, and the other teacher-training programs at the Center.

Earning a certificate

To earn a certificate of completion — and to fulfill the entrance requirements for further Waldorf teacher-education programs — attend at least 80% of the live sessions with your camera on. International students outside North American time zones may earn a Certificate of Participation by watching the recordings; contact the program director to enroll in this option.

Tuition & payment

The tuition for the 10-month course is $950.

• Individuals (1–2 students): $950, minus any financial aid awarded
• Schools signing up 3–5 teachers: 20% off
• Schools signing up 6+ teachers: 50% off
• Canadian students: $950 CAD — email the program director for a discount code

You may cancel up to 15 days before the program begins for a full refund. Withdrawals during the session are credited toward your account, minus a $75 cancellation fee. Limited financial aid is available on request — reach out to the program director before registering.

Curriculum & reading

All reading is drawn from a single text — Guided Self-Study by Torin M. Finser, a compilation from Steiner’s basic books (How to Know Higher Worlds, Theosophy, and Intuitive Thinking as a Spiritual Path). Over the year the program moves through nine workshop themes:

Materials for the pastels class

• A pack of chalk pastels (not oil) — a rainbow of colors preferred
• Pastel or watercolor paper, 9"×12" or larger — three sheets
• Colored pencils or Lyra pencils, in whatever colors you have
• A blank, unlined journal to write and sketch in
• Masking tape
